Product Overview
Four Materials. One Chair. Uncompromising Attention to Detail.
The JL&C Accent Chair is a piece that rewards close attention. At its structural core, solid oak forms a frame chosen specifically for the qualities that distinguish it from cheaper hardwood alternatives — a tight, consistent grain that holds joinery firmly, a density that resists flex and movement under load, and a surface that accepts finish beautifully, whether left close to its natural tone or treated to a deeper stain. The oak frame is cut, shaped and assembled at JL&C’s Shanghai facility with mortise-and-tenon joinery that eliminates the wobble and creaking that dowel-only or bracket-assembled frames develop over time.
Over the frame, two upholstery materials are applied in deliberate combination. Matte leather covers the panels where tactile quality and surface durability matter most — the seat, the armrests, the areas of highest contact and wear. Matte leather is selected over gloss for a reason: it reads more naturally in refined interior settings, ages with far greater character than pigmented gloss leather, and holds its surface integrity through daily use without cracking or peeling the way bonded alternatives do. Where the matte leather provides grounding warmth, the leopard-print fabric panels introduce visual tension — a pattern that has been used in premium interior design contexts for decades precisely because it reads as both bold and considered when the surrounding materials are executed with restraint.
The finishing detail that completes the chair is the copper brass nailhead trim — individually set studs that trace the boundary between upholstery panels, the line of the seat base and the profile of the backrest. Nailhead work of this kind is a traditional upholstery finishing technique that, when executed correctly, communicates precision and intentionality. Each stud is placed by hand, spaced consistently and seated flush — a level of craft detail that photographs well, reads beautifully in person and cannot be replicated by machine-set alternatives.
The result is a chair that functions as an accent piece — designed to draw the eye, anchor a seating arrangement and define the character of the space it occupies. Equally suited to a residential living room, a hotel suite sitting area, a private members’ club, a boutique retail space or a high-end hospitality lounge.
