The JL&C Custom Metal and Leather Side Table solves a problem that most side tables ignore: the surface beside a sofa or armchair is used not just for setting down a drink or a lamp, but for keeping the things that are reached for most often — a book, a phone, a remote, a magazine. This table integrates that storage function directly into the structure of the piece. The leather back panel, which rises vertically from the base and faces the seating it accompanies, carries one or more fitted pockets that hold exactly those items — accessible without reaching, visible without cluttering a surface, contained within a form that reads as a deliberate design object rather than an afterthought addition.
The structural frame is fabricated from solid steel — a flat base plate that sits flush and stable on the floor, and a cantilevered horizontal top surface that extends from the vertical leather panel support. The cantilever geometry means there is no front leg to obstruct the space beneath the table or interfere with the feet of the person seated beside it. The steel frame is finished in a powder-coat or brushed metal treatment applied in-house, with matte black as the standard specification — a finish that reads as recessive and refined against the warm tonal range of the leather panel in most interior contexts. Brushed steel, brushed gold and custom powder-coat colours are available on request.
The leather panel is wrapped over a rigid internal backing panel, tensioned to sit flat and square against the steel frame, and stitched at the edges with a saddle-stitch detail that reinforces the visual quality of the leather work. The storage pocket is cut and folded from the same leather hide as the panel — maintaining grain continuity across the full visible surface — and secured with concealed internal fixings that hold the pocket form under the weight of its contents without deforming the panel face. Perforated detail across the lower portion of the panel adds both tactile texture and visual interest at close range. Leather colour options include tan, cognac, camel, warm grey, black and navy, with custom colours available on request for coordinated interior projects.
Cantilever Steel Frame Construction
Solid steel flat base plate and cantilevered top surface — no front leg, no floor obstruction. Powder-coated or brushed metal finish applied in-house for consistent surface quality and long-term durability.
Integrated Leather Storage Pocket
One or two fitted pockets cut and folded from the same leather hide as the panel — holding books, magazines, phones and remotes within arm's reach without cluttering the table surface.

Full-Grain Leather Back Panel
Leather panel wrapped over a rigid internal backing and stitched with saddle-stitch edge detail — tensioned flat, grain-continuous from panel face to pocket fold, available in tan, cognac, black, grey and camel.
