Product Overview
Solid Oak Where It Shows, Engineered Strength Where It Counts
The JL&C Custom Oak Sideboard is built on a deliberate material logic: solid oak is used where it is seen and touched — the door fronts, the top surface, the side panels and any exposed frame elements — while premium solid wood multilayer plywood forms the structural carcase that bears the load, resists movement and maintains dimensional stability over time. This is not a compromise; it is the correct material hierarchy for a piece of furniture that must hold its form through years of daily use in a residential, hospitality or commercial interior. Solid oak brings the warmth, grain character and natural variation that no engineered surface can replicate. Multilayer plywood provides the cross-grain construction that prevents the seasonal movement and warping that solid timber alone cannot fully resist at large panel widths.
The oak used throughout the piece is kiln-dried to a controlled moisture content before machining — a step that stabilises the timber dimensionally and reduces the risk of post-production movement caused by humidity variation in the installation environment. Grain character and tone are assessed at the material stage, and for multi-unit project orders, oak panels are selected from the same cutting batch to maintain tonal consistency across all pieces. The surface finish is applied by hand in our Shanghai workshop: natural oil, satin lacquer, stained or painted finishes are all available, each producing a distinct visual character while protecting the oak surface against the marks, moisture and handling that a sideboard surface must endure in regular use.
Overall dimensions, door configuration, drawer count, internal shelf layout and hardware selection are all confirmed with the client before production begins. The sideboard is suited to a wide range of placement contexts — as a dining room side piece beneath artwork or a mirror, as a hotel corridor console providing both storage and surface display space, as a living room media unit, or as a villa entrance hall credenza. Whatever the context, the piece is produced to the confirmed specification with no catalogue restriction on dimension, configuration or finish combination.
Solid Oak Visible Surfaces
Door fronts, top surface, side panels and exposed frame elements are all solid oak — kiln-dried for dimensional stability, with natural grain character assessed and matched across multi-unit project orders.
Hand-Applied Surface Finishing
Natural oil, satin lacquer, stained or painted finishes — each hand-applied in our Shanghai workshop and inspected for coverage consistency, tone accuracy and surface quality before the piece is assembled.
Fully Custom Dimensions & Layout
Width, height, depth, door count, drawer configuration and internal shelf positions are all adjustable — the piece is produced to fit the defined space and storage brief, not adapted from a standard size.
Premium Multilayer Plywood Carcase
The structural carcase is built from solid wood multilayer plywood — cross-grain construction that resists warping, holds fasteners securely and maintains dimensional stability across the full width and height of the piece.
Bespoke Hardware Selection
Door and drawer hardware — bar pulls, cup handles, recessed finger pulls or push-to-open mechanisms — specified per order in brushed gold, brushed silver, matte black or satin chrome.
Export-Ready Timber Packaging
Disassembled where appropriate, wrapped in protective foam, packed in reinforced cardboard and palletised — designed for safe long-distance international freight delivery of solid timber furniture.
