What is baked lacquer panel and how durable is it compared to a standard painted or laminate surface?
Baked lacquer panel is an engineered wood substrate — typically high-density fibreboard or moisture-resistant MDF — coated in multiple layers of specially formulated lacquer that is cured at high temperature in a baking oven. The heat-curing process cross-links the lacquer at a molecular level, producing a surface hardness that is significantly greater than air-dried paint, melamine foil wrap or standard laminate. In practical terms, this means the desk surface resists scratching from everyday objects like pens, keyboards and device edges; it does not absorb moisture from spilled liquids when wiped promptly; and it does not peel, bubble or fade under normal indoor lighting and temperature conditions over the product’s working life. The surface is available in high-gloss, semi-gloss and matte sheens, all produced by the same baking process with different lacquer formulations, and can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
What is microfibre hard wrap and what makes it different from ordinary upholstered furniture panels?
Microfibre hard wrap is a rigid substrate panel — typically a dense foam board or structural MDF panel — wrapped tightly in microfibre leather and finished with sharp, clean edges. Unlike conventional upholstery, which has a visibly soft, cushioned surface that compresses under light pressure, hard wrap maintains a firm, flat, architectural surface at all times. The microfibre skin provides the same visual warmth and tactile quality as a soft upholstered panel — depth of colour, fine texture, a material richness that painted or laminated surfaces cannot replicate — but with a structural presence and a permanently sharp edge profile. On the JL&C Home Office Desk, it is applied to the front and side vertical elevations: the surfaces you see when you look at the desk from across the room, creating a refined material contrast with the hard lacquer tabletop above and the steel frame below.
What stainless steel frame finishes are available, and how long do they last?
Four standard electroplated finishes are available for the stainless steel frame: brushed gold, brushed silver, matte black and satin chrome. All are applied via an electroplating process performed entirely in-house at our Shanghai factory, which allows us to maintain close control over plating thickness, surface preparation and finish consistency across an order. Electroplated stainless steel resists tarnishing, surface oxidation and normal wear under both residential and hotel office conditions. For environments with higher ambient humidity — such as hotel rooms in tropical or coastal climates — brushed silver or satin chrome are generally preferable as they show surface moisture marks less readily than brushed gold. All finishes are produced to hospitality-grade durability standards and can be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
Can I specify the lacquer colour, microfibre wrap colour and steel finish completely independently of each other?
Yes — all three material finishes are specified independently and confirmed separately in the pre-production technical drawing. This means you can choose any combination: a matte charcoal lacquer tabletop with an ivory microfibre front panel and brushed gold steel legs, for example, or a high-gloss white lacquer surface with a navy microfibre elevation and matte black frame. There is no restriction on combinations. Our team can also provide finish coordination recommendations if you share your interior colour palette or reference images — advising on combinations that work well together in terms of reflectance contrast, warm-cool balance and material proportion. What desk configurations are available — can I order an L-shape or U-shape desk?
Three configurations are available as standard. A straight desk provides a single continuous work surface with no return, typically in widths from 140 cm to 220 cm. An L-return desk adds one perpendicular return surface on the left or right side of the main desk, at a depth that can be specified independently of the main desk depth — a 50 cm shallow return is common when the return is used for a monitor or reference materials rather than primary active work. A U-shape configuration provides returns on both sides of the main desk surface. All three configurations are available in the same three-material specification. Return widths, depths and heights are all confirmed in the technical drawing before production. Can I request a material sample before finalising the finish selections for my order?
Yes. A material finish sample board — showing the available baked lacquer sheen and colour options on actual panel material, and the available microfibre leather colour and texture swatches — can be produced and dispatched internationally before you finalise your finish selections. For single-unit and small-batch residential orders, the technical drawing confirmation process ensures all specifications are formally agreed in writing before production begins. For hotel batch orders of 10 or more units, producing one complete desk as a pre-production sample for on-site review before committing to the full batch is strongly recommended and is a service we regularly provide.
