Custom Solid Oak Console Table — Tailored Width, Finish & Leg Profile

Product Overview

The First Piece a Space Asks For — Solid Oak, Precisely Proportioned, Built to Last

A console table occupies one of the most demanding positions in any interior — it is placed directly against a wall in an entryway, hallway, or lobby where it receives close visual scrutiny from every person who enters the space. At this distance and in this context, material quality is immediately apparent: the grain pattern and surface texture of genuine solid oak reads entirely differently from a veneer-over-MDF product, and the structural uprightness of a well-jointed hardwood frame contrasts clearly with the subtle deflection and joint movement that affects lighter-constructed alternatives. This table is built entirely from kiln-dried solid oak — every leg, every rail, the tabletop, and the lower shelf where specified — because in this placement, the material is the message.

The tabletop depth is proportioned specifically for wall-adjacent use — available from 28 to 40 cm, significantly shallower than a dining or work table. This slim profile allows the piece to occupy entryway and hallway positions without encroaching on circulation space, while providing sufficient surface area for decorative objects, lighting, trays, and the everyday items that define an entry zone. Width is fully customisable from 80 to 200 cm, accommodating everything from a narrow apartment hallway to a wide hotel lobby corridor.

Surface finish options range from natural oil — which enhances the grain warmth and amber character of the oak — to black open lacquer, which creates a dramatic, grain-visible dark surface that suits contemporary and high-contrast interiors. A full range of stain-plus-lacquer tones including light ash, honey, walnut, smoked, and ebonised is also available, allowing the table to be integrated into any wider interior palette. All finish and dimension specifications are confirmed in a technical drawing before production begins.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS & CAPABILITIES

Custom Solid Oak Console Table size

Made to Your Specification

Width, Depth, Finish, Leg Profile, and Shelf Configuration — All Specifiable

A console table placed in a hotel lobby corridor has different dimensional requirements from one positioned in a narrow residential hallway or used as a behind-sofa table in an open-plan living room. Width, depth, height, leg profile, lower shelf configuration, and surface finish all need to be calibrated to the space, the adjacent furniture, and the interior palette. Our factory accepts complete custom specifications across all six parameters below — every order is confirmed in a technical drawing before production begins.

Surface Finish

Select the oak treatment that best suits the interior colour palette and maintenance requirement. Natural oil: open grain, warm amber, re-oilable in the field Clear lacquer: hard surface, near-natural appearance, low maintenance Black open lacquer: dark, grain-visible, dramatic — suited to high-contrast interiors Stain + lacquer: light ash / honey / walnut / smoked / ebonised black Custom stain tone by RAL reference or submitted colour sample on request

Lower Shelf Configuration

Choose whether to add a lower shelf for structural reinforcement and display storage. No lower shelf (open base — minimal, uncluttered) Fixed solid oak shelf at 20–30 cm from floor (grain-matched to top) Slatted oak shelf (open slat spacing — lighter visual weight) Two-tier shelf (upper and lower — increased display area, on request) Shelf depth typically 70–80% of tabletop depth

Back Panel or Open Back

Define the rear face of the table for installations visible from behind. Open back (standard — placed directly against wall) Solid oak back panel (for peninsula or room-divider placement) Painted back panel (RAL colour — decorative contrast visible from rear) Mirror back panel (reflects the space behind the table — for lobby and foyer use)

Why JL&C Furniture

Direct From Factory to Foyer — No Intermediaries, No Quality Compromise

A console table placed in a hotel lobby, villa entrance hall, or residential foyer is one of the most scrutinised pieces of furniture in any interior. Visitors stop at it, touch it, and assess it at close range — often before they have seen any other piece in the space. The quality of the timber selection, the consistency of the grain matching across the tabletop, the precision of the leg taper, and the evenness of the finish application are all immediately apparent at this proximity. JL&C Furniture controls every stage of this table’s production in our Shanghai factory: timber selection and kiln-drying verification, milling and dimensioning, joint cutting and assembly, finish application, and quality inspection before packaging. There are no subcontractors at any stage — the team that selects the oak boards is the same team that cuts the joints and applies the finish.

For interior designers and project procurement teams, this direct production model means that your specification — including non-standard widths, custom finish tones, and specific leg profile preferences — is communicated directly to the craftspeople executing it, without interpretation errors introduced by intermediary parties. All orders are confirmed in a pre-production technical drawing. Pre-dispatch photography is provided for all batch orders. Single-piece residential commissions and multi-unit hotel lobby or villa programmes are handled with identical production standards. Factory-direct pricing means your project budget reaches the timber and finish — not a trading company margin.

“The console table is the first piece of furniture a visitor notices in a home or hotel. We treat the grain selection, finish consistency, and joint quality of every unit with the same rigour we apply to showpiece dining tables and statement beds.”

What Our Clients Say About JL&C Furniture Custom Solid Oak Console Table

“We specified custom console tables for the corridor landings of our boutique hotel — each one 160 cm wide, black open lacquer, tapered square legs, with a fixed lower shelf. JL&C confirmed every dimension in a drawing before production, grain-matched the tabletop boards beautifully, and delivered all units on schedule. The black lacquer finish is consistent and flawless across the full batch. Exactly the statement piece the corridors needed.”

Hotel Interior Design Director · Boutique Hotel Group, Hong Kong

“I commissioned a custom console table for a residential entrance hall — 140 cm wide, natural oil finish, turned legs, with a slatted lower shelf. JL&C sent a finish sample for approval, confirmed the leg profile in a sketch before cutting, and delivered a piece with exceptional grain quality and proportion. The natural oil on the oak has warmed beautifully in the six months since installation. My client has already asked for a matching side table.”

Senior Interior Designer · Luxury Residential Studio, Singapore

“Our villa development needed twelve matching console tables for the entry foyers — all 110 cm, smoked oak stain, straight square legs. JL&C handled twelve identical units with perfectly consistent finish tone and grain direction across every piece. Factory-direct pricing made genuine solid oak viable within the project budget. All twelve arrived undamaged and ahead of the installation schedule. We have already specified the same supplier for the dining furniture programme.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a console table, an entryway table, and a hallway table?

These three terms describe the same category of furniture — a slim-profile table designed primarily for wall-adjacent placement in a foyer, entrance hall, hotel lobby corridor, or behind a sofa. The terms are used interchangeably across different markets and interior design traditions. In practice, all three describe a table characterised by a shallower depth than a dining or working table (typically 28–40 cm), a height in the range of 75–90 cm, and a width that varies significantly depending on the wall space available. The defining function is decorative display and light utility — keys, mail, lighting, artwork, decorative objects — rather than work surface or dining use.

Why is solid oak used rather than oak veneer or painted MDF for a console table?

A console table positioned in an entryway or hotel lobby is observed and touched at close range — often as the first piece of furniture a visitor encounters in a space. At this proximity, the difference between genuine solid oak and an oak veneer or painted MDF product is immediately apparent in grain depth, surface texture, visual warmth, and structural rigidity. Solid oak has continuous grain running through the full thickness of each component — the tabletop, legs, and shelf are all real timber throughout. Veneer products have a thin layer of real oak (typically 0.3–2 mm) bonded to an engineered core; painted MDF has no wood character at all. Solid oak can also be re-finished if the surface is marked or worn over time; veneer and MDF cannot.

What surface finishes are available, and can I request a custom colour?

Six standard finish options are available for solid oak: natural oil, clear lacquer, black open lacquer, and stain-plus-lacquer in light ash, honey, walnut, smoked, and ebonised black. Natural oil and black open lacquer are both open-pore finishes — they preserve the surface texture and grain character of the oak. Clear lacquer and stain-plus-lacquer are semi-film finishes — harder surface, lower maintenance. Custom stain colours can be specified by RAL code or submitted physical sample; a test panel on matching oak is produced and approved by the client before full application. Custom tones typically add 3–5 business days to the standard production lead time.

What is black open lacquer and how does it differ from a standard black painted finish?

Black open lacquer is an open-pore lacquer formulation that penetrates into the wood fibre rather than forming a film on top of the surface. The result is a surface that is visually dark — reading as black or near-black — but through which the natural grain texture and pore structure of the oak remain visible and tactile. This is fundamentally different from a standard black paint, which fully covers the grain and produces a uniform opaque surface. Black open lacquer on solid oak produces a surface that changes in appearance depending on the angle of light — under direct lighting, the grain reads clearly through the dark colour; under ambient lighting, the surface appears as a deep, uniform dark. It is the specified finish for clients who want a dramatic, contemporary table without losing the natural material identity of the oak.

What leg profiles are available, and how does the choice affect the appearance of the table?

Four standard leg profiles are available. Tapered square legs have a square cross-section that reduces progressively from top to bottom — the most widely specified profile for contemporary interiors, giving the table a light, elegant character. Straight square legs maintain a constant square cross-section from top to foot — a heavier, more architectural profile suited to interiors with strong geometric lines. Tapered round legs have a circular cross-section that reduces toward the foot — a softer, warmer silhouette often associated with mid-century and Scandinavian-influenced design. Turned legs feature decorative rings, coves, or bulbs along their length — a traditional craft detail that adds visual interest at close range. The leg profile is one of the most significant visual decisions for a console table and is confirmed in a sketch drawing before production begins.

What width options are available, and how should I determine the right width for my space?

Width is fully customisable from 80 to 200 cm; widths outside this range are available on request. The appropriate width depends on the wall space available and the proportional relationship between the table and the wall it occupies. A common guideline is to specify a table that occupies 60–80% of the wall width — wide enough to read as a considered furniture placement, narrow enough to leave visible wall space on either side. For hotel corridor positions, the standard width is often 120–160 cm. For residential hallways, 90–130 cm is most common. For villa entrance foyers or hotel lobby consoles, widths up to 200 cm or beyond are appropriate.

Can I add a lower shelf, and what shelf options are available?

Yes. A lower shelf is a popular addition to console tables as it provides visual grounding to the piece, increases structural rigidity in the base, and offers a secondary display surface for books, trays, baskets, or decorative objects. Three shelf configurations are available: a fixed solid oak shelf (grain-matched to the tabletop), a slatted oak shelf (open slat construction — lighter visual weight), and a two-tier double shelf for maximum display area. Shelf height from the floor is typically 20–30 cm; the specific height is confirmed in the technical drawing. Shelf depth is typically 70–80% of the tabletop depth to maintain visual proportion.

What is the standard height for a console table, and can it be adjusted?

Standard console table height is 80 cm, which is within the typical range for entryway and hallway use (75–90 cm). This height places the tabletop at approximately hip-to-waist level for an average adult — comfortable for placing objects without bending, and proportionally appropriate relative to standard wall-mounted mirrors and artwork. Height can be specified anywhere within the 75–90 cm range by adjusting leg length at the production stage. Custom heights outside this range — including lower display heights of 65–70 cm — are available on request and confirmed in the technical drawing.

Is the table suitable for placement behind a sofa as well as in an entryway?

Yes. Console tables are frequently placed directly behind a sofa as a behind-sofa table — positioned against the sofa back to provide a surface at approximately sofa-arm height. For this placement, the relevant dimension is height relative to the sofa back height rather than the entryway-standard 80 cm. We can specify the table height to match the specific sofa back height — typically 85–95 cm for most contemporary sofas. The depth range of 28–40 cm is proportionally appropriate for behind-sofa placement as well as entryway use.

What is the minimum order quantity and what is the lead time?

MOQ is 1 piece — there is no minimum quantity. Standard lead time is 25–35 business days after written order confirmation and deposit receipt. This covers all production stages: timber selection and kiln-drying verification, milling and dimensioning, joint cutting, assembly, multi-coat finish application with intermediate sanding, quality inspection, and export packaging. For batch orders of 20 or more units — such as hotel corridor or villa foyer programmes — lead time is confirmed individually at the quotation stage.

How is the table packaged for international shipping?

Each table is individually foam-wrapped with leg corner protection and a rigid board protecting the tabletop surface. The wrapped table is placed in a reinforced export carton and loaded onto a wooden pallet for container shipping. We ship FOB Shanghai as standard; CIF to destination port is available on request. On arrival, allow the carton to acclimatise to the interior environment for 24 hours before unpacking, particularly if transitioning from a cold container to a warm, climate-controlled interior — this reduces the risk of surface condensation on the lacquer finish.

Can I request a finish sample before placing an order?

Yes. A finish sample board — showing all available lacquer and stain-plus-lacquer options on actual oak — can be produced and dispatched for client review before the finish is confirmed. For single-unit commissions, finish sample approval combined with technical drawing confirmation resolves all specification questions before production begins. For batch orders of 10 or more units, we recommend producing one complete table as a sample for on-site review before full batch production commences. Sample lead time is 15–20 business days; sample cost is credited against the confirmed full order. Contact us via WhatsApp (+86-13611769803) or the enquiry form to initiate.
