The JL&C Upholstered Bar Chair is a piece of seating engineered from the inside out. At its core sits a solid wood structural frame — the foundation that determines whether a bar chair remains stable and silent after months of daily mounting and dismounting, or begins to flex, creak and loosen as lesser frames inevitably do. Our solid wood frame is assembled with precision joinery at JL&C’s Shanghai facility, producing a structure that holds its geometry, absorbs load without movement and remains comfortable to use across years of regular occupancy.
Framing the seat, beech wood armrests are shaped and finished to deliver both structural reinforcement and a tactile warmth that distinguishes this chair from all-upholstered or metal-arm alternatives. Beech is chosen for its density, workability and clean grain — a timber that finishes crisply, holds its shape and provides a natural counterpoint to the fabric-covered seat and back panels. Beneath the cushioning, a stainless steel spring layer provides the suspension platform that keeps the seated surface performing as intended — distributing weight evenly and maintaining cushion profile through repeated use.
High-resilience foam fills the seat and back cushions, delivering a firm-yet-comfortable seating experience that holds its shape over time. Unlike standard density foam, which begins to compress and hollow under regular use, high-resilience foam is engineered to recover — making it the appropriate specification for bar and counter seating in both residential and high-traffic commercial environments. The exterior fabric upholstery — available in over 30 options across a curated palette of tones and textures — is hand-cut and stitched by skilled craftspeople at our facility, with every seam, panel edge and surface finish reviewed before the chair is approved for shipment.
This bar chair is equally suited to a home kitchen island, a hotel bar counter, a private members’ lounge, a restaurant high-top or a commercial entertainment space. Custom seat heights, fabric selections, leg finishes and volume quantities are all available.
